Structure Each chapter opens with a current theme or topic. • The sections "Training, Wortschatz, Aussprache," and "Grammatik" allow for ample practice and reinforcement of the chapter-material. The relation between textbook and workbook exercisesis transparent as each page in the textbook is complemented with a corresponding page in the workbook. Each workbook chapter concludes with a review page "Rückschau" that allows the learner to assess her/his progress. At the end of each textbook a comprehensive test prepares the learner for an internationally recognized language-proficiency test ("Start Deutsch 1, Start Deutsch 2, or Zertifikat Deutsch"). Content Optimal consists of authentic reports and texts from the German speaking countries of Europe. Concept Optimal is task-oriented and based on the Common European Framework of Reference which reflects the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines. Systematic reinforcement of pronunciation enables learners to speak with ease. The workbook includes Audio-CDs for the learner. The teacher´s manual includes not only pedagogical and instructional suggestions but also a CD-ROM that allows for further differentiation in the classroom.
